Start your day in Vatican City by escaping the long lines into the Vatican Museums and entering through the VIP entrance into the residence of the world’s most illustrious pieces of artwork. Once settled inside the Vatican, you and your guide will explore the culture and history of the Master Renaissance painters, their struggles and frustrations along with their triumphs and glories. Starting from a exterior piazza inside the museums with an incredible view of St. Peter’s Basilica, your guide will describe how humble beginnings have led to what lie before you. As you make your way through the various chambers of the museum, including the Belvedere Courtyard, the apartments once occupied by the Borgia pope, the Hall of Maps, the Hall of Tapestries, and the Raphael rooms, your guide will detail how the collection came to call these sacred walls home and how the works presented before you have helped defined their genres and pinpointed the exact moments when the world succumbed to the greatest crafts ever made. Then you will enter the Sistine Chapel to examine a piece of work many consider to be the most magnificent execution of craft and skill ever created by a single man. After time spent inside the Sistine Chapel, you will depart through an exclusive staircase used primarily for the movements of the pope, you will end your time at Vatican City in St. Peter’s Basilica where you will view Michelangelo’s Pieta and Bernini’s Baldacchino built in order to mark the tomb of the martyr Peter. At the conclusion of this walk, the significance of the art, architecture, culture and faith of the Catholic religion will be discerned and appreciated.

Now the Roman tour industries worst kept secret, EVERYONE wants to get into the Vatican first thing in the morning. We wait it out a bit, and take you in after the morning rush of large-sized cruise passenger and “exclusive” tour groups.
