There, in the distance stands an apparition of the former glory of Rome. Haunting the modern city with her arched arcades and slowly decaying frame, providing a lucid if not melancholy testament to the society that once invaded her hollows on a daily basis. Standing under the silhouette of the Colosseum creates a profound memory for all who enter Rome. The Flavian Amphitheater stands almost 2,000 years after its inception to beckon those who dream of entering the gates of ancient Rome. On this tour your guide will take you deep into the history of both the Empire and her emblematic monuments, one where men fought both mortal and beast with ruthless abandon all for a few moments of glory, while cries from the mouths of up to 50,000 spectators pierced their ears. Chronicling the social and political events that took place within the Ancient City, the Colosseum and Roman Forum provide modern scholars with details of a city where classes, cultures and customs fiercely collided. As you depart from the interior of the Colosseum, you will enter the apex of Roman bureaucracy, the Roman Forum. Your guide will take you into the center of where the empire was ruled, where Rome’s public and civic foundations were established as far back as the 8th century BCE. As you weave your way along the ancient stone avenues past crumbling ruins of temples, markets and courthouses, your guide will share with you the stories of senators, emperors and the common men whose devotion to the city and her holding surpassed any other. As you depart the Roman Forum you will make your way through the ruins of the imperial palaces atop the Palatine Hill. Here on this small mount while overlooking the Tiber River and Circus Maximus, where the foundations of Rome were once set, you will conclude your time spent in the ancient city of Rome.
